Very important information on youth group communication follows:
I’m looking forward to an awesome new school year! Good communication is an important part of making sure everyone is on the same page. We use several communication tools to keep everyone informed of what’s going on in the teenEPIC Youth Group throughout the year. Obviously, the website is the primary source of information. Make sure you’re signed up to “Follow Blog via Email” located on the sidebar.
Details about all major events will show up here at http://www.teenepic.org. You’re welcome to call or text me for details if you need to, but a little secret – if you ask me, I will, most likely, have to check the website. For long-term events (like Refuge or Winterfest) you can click on ‘Calendar’ above (or see the agenda calendar on the side bar of this page) to look for dates. If you’re looking for something in particular and it’s not on the calendar, don’t hesitate to ask. You can also search for keywords at the top of the sidebar.
The second source of communication is REMIND. Many students are familiar with this from school. This is a safe and effective way for teachers and youth ministers to communicate with students (and parents).
Much like a text or Twitter, there is a limit of 140 characters, so this service is primarily used for short bits of information or reminders -often times it will point back to the website when it concerns an event or something with a lot of information. REMIND can send email or texts – I will put both on the lists – you can decide if you want to use one or both of those options. If it gives you the option of being a “student”, “parent”, or “teacher”, please choose either “student” or “parent”. I will be sending more texts for those specific groups this year.
While those are the two main avenues for communication within the youth group, I will also occasionally send a group email. Make sure you alert the church office if your email changes or if you need a different email address put in the system.
Also, social media is used to share happenings during events or share pictures after an event. Facebook – facebook.com/teenepic, Twitter – twitter.com/teenepic, and Instagram – instagram.com/teenepicyg. (Anything posted on the website also goes to Facebook and Twitter).
In the next few days, you will probably receive updates from REMIND and maybe other services about being added to a new list, etc. The start of a new school year is a good time to make sure everyone is on board with communication.
If you graduated last Spring, you (and your parents if you are the last one in the household to graduate) will be taken off the list.
If you get an invite from REMIND or another service but do not want to be included on the list, you can simply deny the request or unsubscribe. Just be careful what you unsubscribe from – I’ve had people take themselves off of a list and then be upset because they didn’t get information about a trip.
If you do not get an invite and you want to be included on one of the lists (MS, HS, or both) – you can call or text me personally or send an email to me. Make sure you include your email or cell phone # you want to be added AND the list you want to be added to.
Let me know if there is a better way to communicate or if you need any help setting anything up, so you are getting all the information you need!
